Setting Up Your RV at Campsites

No matter if you are a seasoned traveler or the new owner of an RV, it’s always a great idea to have a checklist of things to do as you prepare your recreational vehicle for a trip. When you arrive at your destination, there are some tips to consider to avoid damage.
  1. Before you arrive, make sure you reserve the right site for your RV or trailer. You can either pull up or back in. When you book, make sure to consider the nearby places you’ll be visiting.
  2. Before you park, make sure you have adequate fuel in your tank. In the event of an outage, you may need to run your generator. Also, check that you have sufficient propane to meet your needs.
  3. Before you park, do a visual check to make sure you have enough room and that you don’t run over debris that would damage your RV or trailer. Make sure your connections will reach the electrical post and sewer before you start the setup and leveling process.
  4. After parking, double-check that your connections reach again before you level your RV or trailer. Extend your slides, if possible, to allow for access to your RV wet bay and sewer connections.
  5. Hook up your connection to the freshwater line. Let it run first to check it's clear before you connect it. Now’s the time to fill your freshwater tank as a back-up
  6. Turn the breakers off at the electrical post and plug in your 30 to 50-amp plug. We recommend using a surge protector to prevent damage from power surges.
  7. Connect the sewer line. We recommend using disposable gloves to connect the hose. Make sure all the connections are tight. Check that everything flows and the tanks empty.
  8. Do a final check of all connections and extend your sides, if applicable. After you’ve done this a few times, it will only take about 30 minutes to set up at your campsite.
